Virgin Trains is a UK train operating company owned by Virgin Rail Group, a joint venture between Virgin Group and Stagecoach, which ran the InterCity West Coast franchise from 9 March 1997 to 7 December 2019. For 50 years, Virgin Trains has been renowned for bringing unique and exceptional customer services.
Virgin Trains Services
Virgin Trains first introduced two services from London Euston, to Shrewsbury and to Blackpool North in 1998. The former stopped working in 1999, the latter stopped in May 2003. In December 2014, they reintroduced a daily weekday service between London Euston and Blackpool North and a twice daily service between London Euston and Shrewsbury. Until the May 2018 timetable, this number was increased to 4 trains a day.
In September 2015, Virgin Trains announced its first 125 miles per hour (201 km/h) timetable following the completion of Stage 1 of the upgrade.
In December 2007, they provide services from Birmingham New Street to Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central via Crewe were transferred from the CrossCountry franchise to the InterCity West Coast franchise as a part of reshuffle of rail franchises by the Department for Transport.
In December 2008, they introduced a Wrexham General to London Euston service, running south in the morning with an evening return. In February 2009, they opened an hourly London Euston to Chester service.
From January 2009, Virgin Trains slowly started a new "very high frequency" timetable to take advantage of the completed West Coast Main Line upgrade.
Virgin Trains provides a lot of timetable changes from 8 December 2013. There are trains in Edinburgh/Glasgow and London services instead of the hourly Wolverhampton to Euston service. Moreover, most Liverpool services additionally call at Crewe. That's why Crewe has four virgin trains every hour in each direction to/from London, instead of the previous two.
Since December 2014, Virgin Trains has offered a direct service to and from Shrewsbury. At first, it used to be once per day each way, but now this has been increased to two daily services each route.
