- You are a university or college student from an accredited public or private university. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible for Amtrak student discount
- You currently study at Primary or secondary school in the US or Canada
- You are a student from Homeschool. Your student ID card is valid to follow the regulation of the state.
You are required to provide a student ID card or necessary documents showing your school and your age at the purchasing process. The student discount is valid for both online and offline tickets, for online payment, you will need to choose the correct passenger type to take the discount from Amtrak.
Amtrak Student Discount Restrictions
Although student discounts will let your tickets be discounted up to 25%, not every train and destination is qualified for it. Check these limitations from Amtrak student discount terms and conditions for more detailed:
Student discount is not available for upgrades to Acela First class, non-Acela Business class, and sleeper cars
- Student discount is only valid for tickets booked at least three days in advance
- Student discount only work on a "Value" or "Flexible Fare" ticket
- Student discount is valid for certain destinations.
- Student discount is valid for Acela Business class or Coach seats only
- Student discounts can’t combine with other discounts.
- Student discounts will not cover fees for the Missouri river runner, Hiawatha service, Wolverine, Blue Water, Pere Marquette, Lincoln service, Illini, Saluki, Illinois Zephyr, Carl Sandburg, Pacific Surfliner, San Joaquins, Capitol Corridor, Keystone, Pennsylvanian, or 7000-8999 thruway series.
